Founded in 2006 by Dr. James Parker Griffin, Jr., a professor at the Morehouse School of Medicine Prevention Research Center, MAVPP was created as a scientifically credible response to violence such as the kidnapping and rape of two twelve- year-old girls in the Pittsburgh Community. For the first time in Atlanta's history, representatives from community and faith-based organizations, academics, media representatives, school officials, and leading government officials came together around a challenging but common concern: The Prevention of Violence!
The MAVPP Peace Plan© was developed for the counties of Cobb, Clayton, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton, and Gwinnett and dedicated to the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It provides a roadmap for collaboration and implementation of violence prevention strategies.
The goal of the MAVPP Peace Plan© is to present the best of what is nationally known in community violence prevention and the best of what Atlanta's service providers and communities are contributing, recognizing that there are multiple paths to the same destination. AND, youth are the core of the Peace Plan.
